Specific Gravity Combo Kit

This Specific Gravity Combo Kit has everything you need for testing the gravity of your brews.  Testing the gravity of your brews determines the ABV of your beer and is the ONLY way to ensure that fermentation has finished.

The kit includes a plastic hydrometer test cylinder with a removable base, a glass triple scale hydrometer, a dual scale liquid crystal stick on thermometer, and test jar saver (so you can KEEP testing in case your cylinder takes a tumble), and full instructions on opertating and accurately reading your hydrometer.

Specific Gravity, the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of water, is used to determine the ABV of your brews.  By measuring the specific gravity before you pitch your yeast, commonly termed the Original Gravity (OG), and after fermentation has ended, known as the Final Gravity (FG), you can easily calculate the amount of alcohol in your batch with a simple formula: (OG-FG) x 131 = ABV.

A very good bargain.
As advertised, this is a starter/beginner level kit that is priced affordability. Although the test tube is a bit delicate, I found that this kit works very well and is quite accurate in its performance when handled and cared for properly. The adhesive thermometer was precisely accurate when I compared it's readings to my NSF certified food thermometer. I am very happy with this kit, overall. The only detracting statement I would make about the kit is with regard to the instructions for calculating specific gravity. A bit more detailed instruction would have been helpful. Altogether, this is quite a good product at a very reasonable price.

Decent quality
The hydrometer seems to be decent quality, but the cylinder is another story. It is very cheesy, just picking it up you can tell it isn't rigid at all but more like thick plastic wrap rolled into a tube. The one I received had a big crack in the bottom where they plugged the end and leaked badly.
