Beer snobs look down on this humble brew, but it is far and away the closest kit I have made to the original. If you like simple, drinkable beer -- make this one

I had not tried the original until about 3-4 months back. I did and thought this would be a good beer to try and make. I did very good. Some of those who frequent the Pubs may even say Spot on. Good color, very similar in taste and nose. If you think this should be Hoppy, I didn't think the original was either. Would do so again. Opened first bottle after 1 week as a test, because I was using it in a cheese dip, so had to drink the rest. Waitied about three weeks and was very satisfied. This was my first AH kit and was very pleased.

Classic Nut Brown Ale
I brewed this as an extract with specialty grains with the recommended Danstar dry yeast in early December 2015. I kegged it after three weeks and it has been in the keg an addtional month. Very nutty, malty, low hops. Nice session beer. I have not done a side-by-side tasting with Newcastle, but tastes similar. I am pleased with the results, though I have been more impressed with other AHS kits.

This extract was my first attempt at homebrewing in almost 10 years. I wish I could say that I haven't lost my touch, but I'm pretty sure the simplicity of the recipe saved me. A very good clone, a couple of my friends only picked this out of a blind taste test against the namesake because they said it "tastes the same, only fresh"

My first brew. The fundamental flavor is very similar to Newcastle. However it had a slightly hoppier character, somewhat like Bass. Very pleased.

This was a great beer, not exactly like newcastle, but I like it just as much. I used the alcohol boost and it came out great. I'll brew it again some time, cheap tasty, easy to brew.

This was my second recipe to make. Simple and straight forward. It turned out to be a very good and drinkable beer. All my friends thought it was better than the original. I will definitly be making this one again once I try out some other recipes.

This was my 3rd batch (2nd from AHS) and I agree with others that it was a lot less hoppier then the original. I bought a 6 pack of original to compare and this one is less hoppier but much smoother to drink. I was actually thinking I\'ll be disappointed because it will be too hoppy because I dont like hoppy beers but I liked the way it came out.

Used the extract kit and alcohol boost. Kegged it and force carbonated. From boil to tap was three weeks. Very crisp with an increased alcohol bite. Newcastle has always been a favorite of mine, but this clone is better. The keg was empty in a week!

I used this recipe as my first homebrew to compare it to it's namesake and I must say following the directions from AHS produced a better tasting beer than the store bought stuff - I'm sold on homebrew and will be trying many more recipes in the future!

I did the Liquid malt extract version of this beer. I used safeale Dry yeast. I followed the directions to and fermented at about 68 Degrees for one week in primary and then about 2 weeks in the secondary. I bottled this beer and waited about a month to drink. I can honestly say this is one of the best beers I have ever made. It has a nice crisp taste and does taste like fresh newcastle. I will buy the allgrain version next

Made this one (extract) by request of a friend. No big fan of the commercial version but this one is great! Very smooth, slightly malty with hints of caramel, just enough flavor to make you want another sip. Huge hit with friends and family I'll be making this one again and soon.

Very nice recipe, followed mini-mash recipe exactly. Full of flavor, better than the in-store New Castle in my opinion. Will keep this kegged at all times. My wife loves it.

This was my second batch ever and, much to my relief, it was drinkable (my first batch, AHS Shiner Bock clone, was not at all drinkable due to some error by me). I didn't think it tasted a lot like New Castle, but it was ok. It had a very strong after taste, which may have just been the water I used. I am not sure. I don't think I will do this again though.

The Newcastle Brown was my 5th batch I've brewed. After a week in my secondary fermenter, I transfered to my 5 gallon keg and pressurized to 130ppi for 2 days. I then, lowered to 6 ppi and have enjoyed drinking this batch nearly every day. This has been my favorite beer I've done. The flavor is outstanding and one I think I must keep on hand. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely wonderful beer... in every sense of the word. Not going to draw comparison to the namesake but I will say it's the best tasting AHS beer I've made thus far. Smooth, crisp, malty, and a hint of sweet. There's a reason this is one of the most popular recipes.

Q:
This kit came with two hop packs one titled "3HBU" and the other "4HBU hop pellet pack". Can you tell me what the hop type is in these packs and what the weight is? Thank you very much.
Asked by:
Spencer
- 8/8/2019
A:
The HBu Packs typically contain Northern Brewer, Cluster or Warrior hops. The amount in the bag will vary so placing the hops on a small kitchen scale to check the weights would be best
