I bought three of these impulsively, but I wish I had only purchased one to evaluate first. Construction seems good, and if you’re looking for something brand new, the price is reasonable. My biggest issue is that upon opening the keg, you’re greeted with a smell so profoundly noxious, it’s hard to imagine wanting to store your precious brew inside (The rubber base and handles also smell Awful, but they are on the exterior). I understand the origin and presence of manufacturing smells and residues, so thoroughly cleaning the keg was a must. It smelled better, but not perfect considering it is supposed to be new 304. The one thing that completely retains the foul, eye watering, nose burning odor is the lid o-ring. If it’s silicone, it must be a type that’s questionable for food contact. It really smells like it’s been dipped in a mix of jet fuel and weed killer. No silicone anywhere in my collection of beer gear smells like it. It smells cheap and toxic, not unlike a trip to Harbor Freight. Not having any previous experience with white, squishy o-rings that smell like death, I’m not sure if this is normal, nor do I believe that I’m the only person to notice. Now I have to go buy new lid o-rings.
