Finally got to taste this beer after the long wait that comes as a result from bottling (I typically keg). My wife and I enjoyed this more than the Magic Hat version. I ended up using all the hops that were sent instead of following the recipe, it gave this beer a nice pale ale kick that finished with a hint of apricot. I typically find the apricot in Magic Hat #9 to be a little overpowering, but this kit got it just right.

MH #9 was the beer I drank in college after I graduated from Bud Light. So I brewed it as tribute. I did the partial mash and added 3 oz. of hops (recipe calls for 1.75 oz). 2 weeks in primary, 1 week in secondary, and 4 weeks in bottles. I am very pleased with the way it turned out. It is perfect summer beer. I will brew it again next year.

I havent tried this clone yet but I am ordering it right after I post this. I noticed some people saying that it didnt taste like real Magic Hat #9. Just a little heads up about Magic Hat. They change there recipes a lot and the Magic Hat you rember back in the day might be very different than the one today. The Clone Recipe on here might be closer to one of their older batches so it is not a very good beer to compare side by side....Just my 2 cents....Enjoy!! I will post again once my kit arrives and I brew!!!

This one really did well at my brewhouse! Didn't take long to mellow out and really had a nice, creamy taste to it.

I'm a huge fan of pretty much all of Magic Hat's selections, especially #9 so I had to give this a try. I followed the instructions exactly as directed. It's been bottled for 3 weeks now and I just did a side by side comparison. The color is spot on and the head is good, but as of right now, it's much sweeter than the real thing and the hops are not quite as pronounced. It turned out pretty good, but I think if I did it again I would have added a bit more Cascade to the wort and only half of the apricot flavoring just before bottling. But, all homebrew gets better the longer it sits so maybe the sweetness will balance out a bit more over the next few weeks.
