The beer was lacking a back end taste. Had the initial bite but come up short in the throat. I tried adding Yakima Golding Pellets as a dry hop when I transferred into the secondary fermenter. The result was amazing and reminded of living in Colorado, which reminds me...why do I live in Ohio....

This is the best one I have made yet. Great flavor. I have tried Fat Tire in a Pub and it was a little more hoppy, however I like mine better! I will not change anything in the next batch. I plan on making many more of this one!

Well - I wish I could give you a better comment but this beer left the house pretty fast. It's good!! Perhaps not exactly like Fat Tire but I'm certainly buying it again as EVERYBODY loved it. I think I might mini mash this a degree lower perhaps 154. I don't want to play with the ingredients yet. Either way = it's a keeper.

Well i just kegged it, but I tasted the hydrometer sample and it is dead on. WOW, i couldn't believe how good it was. This was my first all grain recipe and I didnt quite get to the OG of 1.050 but I did get it down to FG of 1.005, my first time getting my brew this low. I can't wait to taste it after its carbed.

This will definitely become a house favorite if you don't already have one. A friend brought me a bottle of Fat Tire (we can't get it in MD) In return I gave him a growler of my homebrew. He and I honestly like the homebrew version better. You will not be disapointed.

It seems unnecessary to add another comment for this kit, but it truly is the best batch of beer I have made since I started brewing almost 1 year ago. The flavor is close to the commercial version, but of course I like mine far better. After 2 weeks in the bottle, it tasted very rough. Now 5 weeks out, it is awesome. I am trying to show restraint as I think it may improve with further conditioning, but waiting is the hardest part of brewing.

This kit is great. Everyone liked it better than the real deal...even me! It has a bit more body and slight maltiness than Fat Tire. Got better with time, but went fast. I have 4 bottles left that I am going to sit on.

After a week of primary, and a week of secondary off this recipe went to carb in its keg in my kegerator. I was worried at first when my burner went weak on me and my boil wasn't quite a rolling boil, but I have to say it was a very forgiving and rewarding kit. While not my best, it was found to be extremely enjoyable by all that have had it and I will definitely brew it again. I recomend at least 15 psi on a keg for this recipe, and no more higher than around 18. At 20 psi it was a bit overcarbed but made it a more enjoyable slow sipping beer without going flat. If you like true Fat Tire this is an affordable and more than comparable stand in!

This is a great standby. This home-brew recipe has an excellent taste, and honestly I think I like it better than fat tire. In reality, it is different than Fat tire. I think the Victory malt is a little low and the hops not quite strong enough in comparison to the original. But again, it's such a tasty beer there is no complaints.

I blind tested my wife and she immediatly said "Fat Tire." We lived in Colorado for years, so it was familiar to her. The grain bill gets you pretty close to the original. Pretty close is good enough when it taste this good. I have already started a second batch with no changes.

I didn't think this beer turned out much like NB Fat Tire. The beer is okay, but nothing extraordinary. Deep amber color, malty, dry, but lacking in the back end. Wish there was more of a biscuit flavor like Fat Tire.

2 words = Holy crap. I've never had fat tire but I got this recipe based on the reviews; this is one of the best beers I've brewed. I did all grain. Full flavor, nice head retention, tremendous smell and color, very drinkable. This one will absolutely be a regular in the rotation.

I have been pleasantly surprised with this beer. I do not like Fat Tire today and I do not know what it was like 7 years ago. This beer is a nice dark amber color, is very smooth only one week now in the keg, is very drinkable. Has a nice balance between maltiness and hoppiness, with neither of those coming to the forefront. This is a very good beer, now I understand why so many others have spoke favorably of it.

This was my first attempt at making beer. I'm no beer connoisseur but I know what I like. I liked what I made. Thought it might just be my pride of authorship. I tried it on my beer-loving brother-in-law who has German heritage. He took a big quaff and a smile broke out below his Fat Tire mustache. So I'm back to order another batch.

I have been brewing for going on three years, so no big deal. I was given a Fat Tire a few years ago before I started brewing and loved the beer! Just recently in a local pub here in PA. They have Fat Tire in the bottle. My wife fell in love with the beer, and when I was looking on this site and saw it. She told me to get it. Well everyone that I have given the beer to has drank more then one. Fantastic clone as are all of the clone kits that I have bought from Austin's.

Brewed this March 2nd. 1 week in primary, 2 weeks in secondary (dry-hopped w/amarillo) and after only 1 week in bottles....WOW!!! Best beer I have ever brewed. Most of the members of my homebrewers group think it should be entered in a contest. Definitely buying this one again. I used 2 packs of Nottingham and just pitched them dry into primary. Highly recommend (try dry-hopping it, too).

I brewed the extract kit. Also did the 1% alcohol boost. Came in at around 6.2% abv. Killer beer. Perfect balance between malt and hops. 3 weeks primary, 1 week bright tank, 1 week bottles. Very good. Another week or so and it was very close to fat tire and excellent. Couldn't keep my hands off it. A little more hoppy than fat tire which was a plus to me. Slight buscuity flavor once in the bottles for a while but not as pronounced as fat tire. A better beer than fat tire in my opinion.

This kit brewed a delicious beer. I havent had Fat Tire in a long time, but even if it didnt hit it exactly on the head, it was a delicious suggestion! I brewed the extract version and was apprehensive when I saw the liquid extract. I was not disappointed when I tasted the beer because it was absolutely delicious! I left it in primary for 21 days, then bottled it up to condition. I am really enjoying this and would definitely consider ordering it again.

I brewed this in April for the first time. Sat about 10 days in the primary and 2 weeks in the secondary. After 3 weeks in the bottle, it was very good and based on previous experience, it's likely to get better as it matures. Have given away several bottles and gotten very positive comments. Didn't do a side by side with Fat Tire but it is certainly a very tasty amber ale.

This was also my very first homebrew and I loved it! I am a HUGE fan of NB Fat Tire and I was very pleased with the similarities. I actually liked this one a bit better, though I could be bias. This didn't have as much hop and was a very tad bit sweeter, all of which made me very pleased! I'm looking forward to getting my next kit! Just in time for summer enjoyment.

I have never had Fat Tire but based on all the great feedback, I wanted to try this recipe. It turned out great! Now I am trying to figure out how to get my hands on some of the original to compare. A nice balance of malt and bittnerness. I would reccomend letting it age a couple weeks for the flavors to meld together.

My first ever homebrew(extract). Used the dry Nottingham yeast. Primaried for 4 weeks, the transfered to a keg to carb using the "sit and wait" method. Tasted better after about 2 weeks in the keg. If I do it again, I'll probably try and let it age 2-3 weeks after primary to get that nice flavor. Mine doesn't taste exactly like Fat Tire, but it is in the ballpark and after aging a couple weeks, it is really good.

Q:
I am new to Beer making (have done one batch - coffee porter mini mash). I'd have guessed that yeast and priming sugar would have come in the kit. Maybe I am wrong? I guess my question is "what comes in the kit" and "what must I have in addition to the kit to make the batch"? Thanks for helping out a newbie. Mark
Asked by:
Mark
- 2/6/2018
A:
The yeast is offered as an optional add on to the kit, but as we normally offer a few different options between either liquid yeast or a suitable dry yeast pack, this is brewers preference to choose which one they would like to ship with the kit as some folks do pruchase yeast closer to brew day or, have a brand preference on either of the liquid brands used. Priming sugar is only needed if bottling the batch so it would need to be added as it would not ship with the kit on its own. Some brewers keg their batches which does not reuire priming sugar or stock up on priming sugar so they dont need it rolledi nto the cost of the kit, which saves a buck or two for the end user
