AHB Arrogant Bastard
While Stone is generous in sharing many of its recipes with the public, they keep Arrogant Bastard under lock and key. I've seen so many recipes out there for it, none of them the same. 1 fact mentioned by Stone brewers in interviews is that AB is a single hop brew. A fact known to me, as I know folks at Stone, is that they use a lot of chinook hops. This recipe uses only chinook hops, which is why I bought it. I was blown away. A side by side taste test proved it to be pretty damn close, which was a nice surprise, especially since I brewed the LEX kit. Gets better the longer its in the bottle too. One reviewer mentioned it wasn't hop forward enough, but they left in secondary for 3 weeks. That may be too long, May have blown a lot of the hop aroma out through the airlock. 10-14 days should be plenty. I'll definitely brew this again AG.

This is kegged right now and looking really good. The color, smell and taste are pretty darn close to the real thing and I haven't even let this age to maturity yet. I live in DE so finding Stone beers can be tough. I figured I'd try to make clones of whatever I cannot get and this one is shaping up to be a beauty. The kit was complete and the directions were simple and easy to follow. That plus the flat rate shipping makes AHS my new go to homebrew shop.

Woo, this is more bitter than I remember but it is good. Good head, nice initial brown sugar taste, and a hop bite finish. After six weeks in the bottle the bitterness is mellowing a bit more. A little more bottle conditioning and it should be just right.

I've never tried the original but the clone is excellent. I agree with others, it is a bitter beer but in a really good way. A nice sweet taste for a fairly strong beer. Excellent flavor. Conditioned in keg 2 weeks now and gets better with each sample.

I just kegged my own batch but a friend of mine made this same recipe from AHS years ago and I finally got around to making my own batch. If you love Arrogant Bastard then you will love AHS version even more. I would say do a yeast starter for this one or double the yeast as said, because this recipe has enough ingredients for two batches of a regular brew. Or I guess you could split it into two brews and call it Little Bastard.

This by far is the most amazing batch I have made. I like it better than the real thing! I will be making more of this! I recommend double yeast on this one!

My first batch was sweet also. My second batch was right on the money! The change was that the first batch was in the primary 2 days longer. I've got my third batch coming up so I'll find out if it was just a fluke. Cheers!

Arrogant Bastard is one of my favorite commercial beers. Possibly my favorite overall. This kit is pretty close to the original, but mine was a little sweet. The hops were there but it was just a little too sweet. This may be my fault though. Maybe it didn't ferment correctly. I doubled pitched my yeast and my gravity was spot on, but I thought it could've used some more hops. Possibly dry hop with 1oz Chinook. But overall it was a good recipe and I will try it again with dry hopping.

This was my first AHB commercial kit, and it completely exceeded my expectations. This kit is really damn close to the real thing - taste, aroma, appearance - they nailed it! Brewed on 6/23, transferred to the secondary on 7/5, and bottled on 7/15. I double-pitched WLP001. I forced myself to wait the six weeks they suggested before trying, and it was absolutely fantastic. Of the 15 or so batches I've brewed, this has been the most well received brew...even my "tamer" beer friends liked it. Can't wait to try another commercial kit - well done, AHB!

You have to LOVE a good stong ale to love ARROGANT BASTARD, and I do, a LOT! This is a great clone. Very similar to the real thing w/ similar taste, aroma, ect. Double pitched WL California Ale yeast, ABV around 7.5%. Awesome beer. Once it bottle conditioned-it didn't last long at ALL. THANKS AUSTIN HOMEBREW

Extract with White Labs 051, 8.6% ABV. 9 days in primary and 13 days in secondary. Got this kit for serious Stone lovers. AHB nailed this one. Without having the benefit of the actual beer to taste test against no one could tell the difference. If you or someone you know likes the AB beer by Stone, spend the money and take the time to brew this one.

This was the first brew I ever have done (extract version). Primary for a week, secondary for 3 weeks, bottled for 4 weeks. It doesn't really taste like Arrogant Bastard. There just isn't enough hop forward aggressiveness that arrogant bastard is known for. It came out a little sweet as well. Don't get me wrong, it's delicious and I will be drinking all of it, but if you've bought this expecting Arrogant Bastard, you may be disappointed.

Extract version. 8 days of primary, 10 in the secondary. I used White Labs Cali. 01. It's been on the shelf 10 days, and I was supposed to wait 5 weeks, but....I had to sample the goods. It is amazing. I've done several Austin kits, and most are good, but this is a grand slam!!! I will try to wait four more weeks, but I'm sure that won't happen. I've always been a fan of the commercial version, but this one is actually better in my opinion. A job well done to the folks at Austin for getting this one right. If you like the bastard, don't hesitate, do it!
