Anise is a seed-like fruit from Pimpinella anisum, a plant in the parsley family. It is related to caraway, dill, cumin, and fennel. Anise has a warm, sweet, licorice-like flavor. In addition to its uses in cooking, it is used as a flavoring in a number of liqueurs including absinthe, ouzo, and sambuca. In brewing, it currently is used in specialty Belgian and holiday style beers.
