Great Brew
Have gotten a few kits from AHS and this one by far has had the most request to do again. Great beer and look forward to doing it again

By far the worst kit I've brewed. I should have used a very small amount of the watermelon flavoring. It's overpowering. I don't think it's drinkable and that says a lot because I can drink almost anything. How do you give zero stars.

AWESOME
Awesome summer brew. After reading the reviews I only used about 1/4 of the hops, 3/4 of the flavoring and about half the 'boost' Came out with a very smooth and pleasant 5.51 abv. Two weeks in the primary, two more weeks in a secondary carboy, then three weeks in a "corney keg". 14# on my co2 regulator and chilled for 48 hrs. WOW, WOW, WOW! What we got was a slight watermelon aroma (just a teaser) and a slight watermelon taste, (no after taste). Truly amazing.

Firstly, I would like to say that I love AHS!! These dudes are my go to company, and my friends and I have enjoyed every kit I've brewed very much! ...until now. Not horrible, but this kit was sort of a let down. A rather light bodied, somewhat watery wheat beer base combined with an overwhelming amount of watermelon extract. This beer is has an incredibly intense candy watermelon aroma and somewhat artificial chemical like aftertaste. I think this has potential to be a good beer, but there is just too much flavor extract put into play. I wouldn't say that you should not buy this kit, but if you do maybe try halving the extract. The included 3oz of watermelon extract really seems to overpower the beer.

Not bad at all! I brewed this primarily for the SWMBO since I generally don't drink fruity beers (See: Man Law Ch. #1 Sec. 8.7) but it turned out to be a great hot weather beer. I left it in the primary for just under 4 weeks and added the alcohol boost to give it a little extra "kick". It definitely improved after a few weeks aging in the keg. This beer was supposed to be saved for a vacation in August but it's not going to last!

I've brewed for many years and Austin has been my frequent supplier. All previous kits have been above average, but not the Watermelon Wheat. As others have noted, I experienced a distinct chemical after taste and an overpowering aroma and taste of bubble gum. I have always assumed that AHS tested recipes before offering kits for sale, but now I'm not so sure. This would probably have been a good beer without the flavoring.

I didn't use the flavoring. I actually cut up a whole watermelon juiced it and strained it then put in a secondary and racked the beer on top of the juice. Sat for 4 days then cold crashed for 3 days at 35. Kegged the beer had my first drink today. Watermelon smell is present and a slight hint up front. Very light beer.

I just cracked my first bottle open after a week and a half in the primary, two in the secondary, and three in the bottle. It was good. There is definitely a jolly rancher aroma and then the beer is still a nice wheat, not super light like 21st amendment hell or high watermelon, but a nice body. The taste reminds me of watermelon hookah tobacco. A weird comparison, but I understand everyone's comments regarding a chemical-esque taste. I think it actually drinks pretty well. I've just started having my friends try it, so I may have some better feedback in a week or so, but I enjoyed the kit. Will I brew again, prolly not, I think I'll stick to my Belgian Wit from AHS for a summer standard which is delicious!

Hmmmm.... not my favorite flavor extract beer. It has a pungent watermelon aroma, a slight chemical-jolly rancher watermelon bam followed my a more smooth characteristic hef taste. The mouthfeel and lacing of the beer is excellent. If you drink it fast, especially on a hot day with a BBQ, it goes down well, but it is far from a sipping type of brew and one that should definitely not be brought to a guys night. I did 3 weeks in primary, now 2 weeks in a bottle down in the basement, and used american wyeast. I'm hoping the extract flavors calm down with some more aging plus I think bringing the beer up to room temperature may add a tad bit more carbonation to try and muster down that watermelon flavor. All in all though, my wife likes it, so I guess thats all that matters. My recommendation (in addition to the other posted comments) - use half of the watermelon extract. Another suggestion would be to carbonate it a little more than your average brew.

I totally agree with John H. I brewed this all grain. The watermelon flavor is chemically and way too strong. There's a great wheat undertone to the beer, but it's overpowered by the watermelon flavor. My wife tasted it before kegging time and suggested I not add the extract at all - she was right. This would have been a solid hefeweizen without the extract. If I had to try it again, I would only add half, or even a third of the extract. Better to not taste it and have a great beer than to have something that's barely drinkable.
