Partial Mash | 7 SRM. OG 1.051 | Brew Date: 4/29/13| Added 4 puree'd mangos: 5/13/13 | Keg Date: 5/28/13 | Sample Date: 6/1/13 A: orange gold with 1 finger head | S: Mango but very subtle | T: slight mango and citrus. A little more spice from the rye | M: smooth yet bready | O: Good beer, I think the 4 mangos is perfect for someone who only wants a small to mid amount in the taste. The Blue Moon flavor pack I added at 15 min was a nice addition.

I used the extract kit. I think it's a great summer beer. It has a nice clean hop flavor. I have a Kolsch on tap as well and everyone prefers the Rye. I'll make this one again for sure.

I made the extract version of this, used the california liquid yeast with a one quart starter, 10 days in the fermenter and then two weeks in the bottle and this turned out terrific. I am pretty sure I will have to brew this again, it is going pretty quick.

I modified this recipe slightly, by mistake of course. Instead of using 7lbs extract in the mini-mash kit I used 5lbs. Once I realized this mistake, and guessed the % alc to be about 3.5% I boiled up some alc. boost. I figure it to be about 4%. It now is light summer rye (I call Ryolite because I am a dork Geologist). It does not taste like a light beer though. It has the distinct rye taste. Do yourself a favor and sample some ryes before you buy this. If you like it buy this. It hits the rye flavor head on. It's a little light in the body, but not bad (keep in mind my mistake). Several people liked it at the 4th of July BBQ, even though it was a little flat from the growler (I keg my beer). I personally am not a huge fan of rye (did not do much of taste test), so I will not brew it again. It is a very drinkable beer for the summer. Brewed with Danstar Nottingham (dry) yeast.
