EXCELLENT! This beer was one of the finest I have brewed. It clarified perfectly, the rye flavor was subtle, yet clearly identifiable. I got LOADS of compliments from real beer lovers on this one.

This Rye Ale is nice for people who want something different but can't handle strange. The Rye has nice crisp, clean character that taste like nothing else you have had it other beers, yet it still taste like beer - not chocolate or coffee or fruit. Just a clean rye aroma in your nose that is pleasing. I have only made this once, in the past 2 years, as I am methodically trying out every AHS kit offered, but I look forward to this again. Better than Terrapin Rye ale.

I bought this to see what the rye was all about. I have tasted a few rye beers before, and was not overly impressed, this was GREAT! As the others have said, a real nice balance with the rye and hops, I was REALLY impressed with this beer, and am sorry I only bought one kit. A great summer time beer, next time I will have to make a double batch, so it last a while longer! If you are curios about trying a rye beer, I highly suggest this delicious beer.

I loved this beer. Nobody else in my immediate circle even likes rye. So nobody else liked it. The rye flavor was subtle and the beer crisp. I will make it again cause I get more.

Quite a surprise. Different from my regular beers. This one had the right balance of rye and hops. A real crowd pleaser.

My batch was done all grain. One strange start was I got way more extraction out than the page said. No big deal but was surprising to me to be that much higher in initial gravity. Final gravity was just a smidge lower so my alc content is higher. I couldn't wait to taste a bit and the bottle I just drank has only been in the bottle 10 days and has sufficient carb and I swear this is one kick arse beer. I am thrilled at the flavor. I really like to order something different each time but this is going to be on my mind here and may have to order my "summer" beer in the dead of winter here in Maryland. Great one, guys!

Brewed this during the summer. It did not last long. Dry and crisp, perfect for warmer days. Several neighbors tasted this as well and had positive comments. A summer staple for sure.

This is an excellent beer! Great taste with a slight hint of pepper and clean finish. Everyone that's tried this has enjoyed it from true beer lovers to the commerical beer drinkers. Just ordered my second kit.

I got this beer based on the comment stating that this is a brew for those "who want something different but can't handle strange". I have never been a fan of the few rye ales that I have tried, but I wanted to expand my brewing portfolio so I ordered it. 1 week primary with wyeast london esb, 1 week in secondary, and it has been in the keg for about 3 weeks. during the end of the first week in the keg i sampled it.... i was hoping to pawn it off on my friends due to its outrageous earthy off-flavors. But with some time it does become crisp, loses the odd flavors, and restored my faith in ryes. It has an initial aromatic flavor followed by a crisp clean finish with a thin mouthfeel and very little hop influence. My one suggestion is to add more aromatic hops, but at the same time this may get confused or argue with the rye flavors. I would recommend this to those that like an "interesting" beer (especially for hot weather), want to give rye beers a shot, or simply want something different, but for those that are just starting with the hobby it may be best to save this brew for later.
