This was the first batch of beer I purchased from AHS and I've been buying ALL my kits from them and continue to brew beer that keep my friends asking for MORE! A friend let me try his 1554 at a bar and the next day I was googling for recipes. I make a batch at least two times a year - love to keep some in stock.

This was my second ever homebrew. Made the extract kit. After 2 weeks in a bottle it hadn't quite acquired the smoothess I expected. After anpther coule of weeks my wife and I did a side by side witht he original. We like the homebrew better. There is more carbonation, more hoppy finish (the kit came with 1 oz o hops and called for 3/4 oz, I used the entire oz.). I've some put back another tasting in a month or so. Great beer, we'll make this again.

Brewed this for my sister (she's a big 1554 fan). Currently in a secondary. Judging by the taste from my hydrometer sample tube, this is gonna be a great clone. Very nice color too. Will leave another comment when finished. Used the White Labs Southern German Lager 838 yeast.

Better than the original, I made it last December and my wife is still hounding me to brew it again. I'm going to brew it next month so she'll leave me alone, besides, I love it!! This recipe is less astrigent than the original, absolutely fantastic!!

My wife said this is the best clone I \'ve ever made and she can\'t wait for me to make it again. Let it mature and it tastes as smooth as the real thing.

I brewed this 1554 clone 6 1/2 weeks ago and kegged it. I sampled it yesterday and it is so close to the commercial brew. I am extremely happy with this kit.I used the Wyeast Bavarian Lager 2206. I will be brewing this kit again. Highly reccomend if you enjoy 1554 black ale.

Not a dead on clone, but an excellent beer. Everyone likes it a lot. I received Coriander instead of Paradise Seeds so that might have made a difference. Plan on making this again to find out. Again, excellent beer.

Did this as a mini-mash and made a yeast starter. I'm really shocked at just how close it is to the real thing. Will be brewing this again (and again)!

I just tapped a keg of this that I made 3 months ago (all grain + dry lager yeast). It is decent, but not what I was expecting. Does not really taste like the New Belgium Schwarzbier; I think you really have to lager to produce that sort of flavor. If you can't lager then this may be the closest you can come, but I'd rather just have a porter.

First kit from AHS, but a 20 year brewer. Excellent packaging, directions and product. Kit is a great clone, and an amazing beer even if it was not a match. I did not use a starter, and would suggest making one as I had a slow start and ending gravity was above desired level. A great beer, will be making many times to come.
